‘George and his beard’
50.5x40.5 cm
Paint on canvas panel
George is looking in his bathroom mirror trying once again to shave a beard that grows defiantly. The more he tries to shave it off the more it consumes him and everything around him. It is only once George accepts his beard and embraces it as a part of himself that the chaos calms and they adapt to life together.
This work is largely inspired by my own journey with mental illness, trauma & disability. There is a natural instinct to vilify these aspects of us but for me I only truely started healing when I accepted myself as I am.
We all deserve to be accepted and loved as we are. While there are challenges, there are no bad parts 🌿
